The ALOUD Program is run by the Children’s Book Council of Australia, (NSW Branch) Inc as part of its literature-based activities for children. The CBCA considers the promotion of Australian children’s authors and illustrators and their work is a significant objective. This program is designed to assist schools/libraries in areas disadvantaged by economic, cultural or distance hardship to invite authors and illustrators of children’s literature to talk to and work with the students, enriching their reading & writing experience.

Funding is available to assist with the cost of speaker’s fees. Schools/libraries will be expected to meet all other expenses relating to the visit including accommodation, meals and booking fees. Funding for travel expenses may be considered in exceptional circumstances.

Priority will be given to schools/libraries which can involve more than their own institution, for example, those who include other schools, a public library and/or the wider community.

There are still funds available for libraries to take up and this must be spent before the end of term 1 2009. Applications by individual organisations are up to $1000 however is a group of libraries / schools collaborate on an event or series of talks then the application value is up to $3000. Further information and forms for application can be found at:
